Hookwood homes, Gatwick expansion: Action stations!
Charlwood Parish Council
The proposed new housing developments in Hookwood and the planned expansion of Gatwick Airport both threaten to have a massive impact on this parish and on those neighbouring villages to Charlwood and Hookwood.
The fact that they have emerged at the same time and that the consultations are running concurrently have added to the sense that this community is under siege and has to shoulder arms to fight this dual threat to our present, rural way lof life.
The Parish Council has posted new pages on this website to help provide information for residents and guide them towards submitting responses to make sure their voices get heard in both debates.
For the impact that Mole Valley District Council's new Local Plan threatens to have on Hookwood with 563 new homes planned in four different sites on green belt land, click here or go to http://www.charlwoodparishcouncil.gov.uk/community/charlwood-parish-council-15729/new---hookwood-plans/.
For the Gatwick consultation on proposals to bring the standby (emergency) runway into routine use for departing aircraft, pushing 70% more passengers through the airport with a 35% increase in flights, click here or go to http://www.charlwoodparishcouncil.gov.uk/community/charlwood-parish-council-15729/new---gatwick-expansion/.
The deadlines imposed on both consultations means there is a sense of urgency with both subjects - comments on the Hookwood proposals and the MVDC Local Plan have to be submitted by 7th November. For Gatwick, the deadline is 1st December.
