Charlwood Parish Council services the residents of Charlwood, Hookwood and Norwood Hill and has a precept income of £76,500 (2024/2025). The council is active in promoting the welfare of the community and conducts its business in a transparent manner.

We are looking for a highly motivated and forward-thinking individual with a ‘can do’ attitude. You will demonstrate strong administrative experience, sound operational knowhow and financial management preferably gained in a similar or comparable rural setting.

You are the key to the effective operation of the council, both in terms of helping to manage and execute the main aspects of its operations, and providing informed, impartial and professional advice.

You will be managing an Asst. Clerk and one other staff member, the finances of the council, progressing contracts and services, monitoring expenditure, income and receipts and regularly reporting to the the Finance Committee and the full council on budgets and spend.

Applicants will have a positive attitude and be able to communicate effectively at all levels. The ability to inspire, motivate and develop excellent working relationships with both councillors and residents is essential. Ideally you will have experience in a local government environment or in a similar role in a rural location but more importantly, is a sense of what it means to provide a positive and effective contribution to our local community.

This post is for 20 hours per week and you will be mainly working from home. Our monthly meetings are held in our Community &Sports Pavilon in Charlwood or in a venue in Hookwood and applicants will need to be available for evening meetings which will form part of your contracted hours.

Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with the CiLCA qualification.
Hours: 20 per week subject to review.
Salary: SCP 23 - 27 £17.29 / £19.20 per hour based upon qualifications and experience.
