Are you interested in working for Charlwood Parish Council? We are looking for an active, enthusiastic, committed person with a background in administration and/or finance to help make a difference to the community.

What do Parish Councils Do? The Council seeks to make life comfortable and enjoyable for the residents of Charlwood and Hookwood. In the past, this has included such things as building the Charlwood pavilion, installing playgrounds and new equipment, and providing defibrillators. The Parish Council is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of The Glebe, The Millenium Field, The Cage and The Withey in Hookwood. The Parish Council reviews all planning applications and consultations that have an impact on our parish as well as making representation in areas like the Gatwick airport expansion.

What is the role of the Clerk & RFO? Duties are varied and include responsibility for the administration of the Council’s business, including guidance and advice on governance, ethics and procedures. They will also include management of and responsibility for the Council’s finances, management of staff, and communication and liaison with the public and other organisations and elected representatives. The Clerk ensures the aims and objectives of the Council are advanced.

What we seek: A Clerk / RFO with excellent administrative and management skills who is IT literate and has strong communication skills, and who will enjoy acting as a focus for the work of the Council in the community. In particular, the Clerk will have legal responsibility for the management of the Council’s finances and other aspects of its work and must be able to work independently within the Council’s structures.

This is a part-time role for 30 hours per week, mainly working from home. It is anticipated that there may be one day a week working from Charlwood Pavilion. Salary ranging from £34,314 full time/ £17.79 per hour to £37,035 full time/ £19.20 per hour depending upon experience.
